Yesterday was Day 8...

Yesterday was the hardest time I've had as far as motivation to exercise. But, I did it anyway. 10 minutes stretching, a 28 minute low to moderate cardio/core workout and 10 minute cooldown. I kicked butt...I sweat my butt off and I hit moves that I haven't yet been able to hit! I felt accomplished and great after that workout! 8 days down, 23 to go! I have been building up. I want to get to about 3-5 hours of moderate cardio activity a week and some form of strength training and/or yoga 2-3 days a week. Today's workout is going to be a few sprints of all out running outside no less, in 25 degree, sunny weather. Yes, I am getting closer and closer to "The Primal Blueprint". After I get the activity down, I'll finish removing all sugar, grains, legumes and processed stuff from my diet. One thing at a time!

As for my food intake, at least three meals and one snack Monday through Friday. I even got up very early this morning and had breakfast (weekends are the worst, so I haven't yet committed to regular meals on the weekend, but I'll get there!)

Blood sugar has been running high all week. I think I may have to re-work my formulas.

Day 6 and growing stronger, well, at least in the exercise department...

Tuesday, Jan 5th

Cardio
Lower Body

Ate 3 meals AND 2 snacks. I battled a high after the exercise. I didn't have enough insulin I guess, then ate my small snack of fruit and had to treat the high.

Wednesday, Jan 6th

Cardio
Upper Body

Ate 3 meals (large breakfast, medium lunch and medium dinner) and 2 snacks, then totally pigged out on a slice of cornbread and a glass of milk (my daughter made it yesterday and I resisted yesterday, but today it called out to me). So what did that mean? You guessed it...another high.

Heard in the Diabetes Too household Monday, when we switched from Dish Network to DirectTV and my son lost the ability to record on his t.v.:

"I'm just not going to watch t.v. anymore...pausey (spoken like those commercials that comedian did imitating George Bush) has become vital, MOM!!"

Happy New Year to me...

Today is Day 4 of my New Year. I have re-committed to a healthier me. I was inspired recently by Scott and one of my commitments is to exercise every day for the month of January. I am making small goals, so I'll recommit on a monthly basis. So far so good.

I've also committed to eating at least three meals and one snack a day during the week days. I can no longer skip meals. This is the hardest thing for me. (I'll commit to doing the same on weekends soon.)

Friday, Jan 1
Cardio
Arms

Saturday, Jan 2
Cardio
Legs

Sunday, Jan 3
Cardio
Yoga

Monday, Jan 4
Cardio (Walking video w/resistance bands)
Core (push ups/sit ups)
B - Turkey breakfast patty (homemade turkey breakfast sausage), 50 g blueberries
S - 1 oz. mixed nuts
L - Whole grain flat bread sandwich w/ham, mustard, tomato, onions and green peppers, 3 small slices avocado, 1 medium clementine, 1/2 small banana
S - Clementine
D - 4 oz. cooked lean pork, 1/4 avocado, homemade salsa, onions and green peppers, cheese, 1 low carb beer

My husband was a little grumpy tonight (he worked nights last night, then went hunting and waited for the satellite guy, so no sleep). He was watching tv and I said, you know, I need to work out (everything is connected to our main tv) and he pretty much ignored me. Now, last month I would have used this as an excuse to not exercise and I really wanted to do that tonight. Instead, I went into my oldest son's room (now a guest room where my younger son keeps his tv and xbox) and I popped the walking dvd in. I don't need my Wii to work out, there are many different things I can do. Within five minutes my husband came to the door to say he was going to bed. So I got my workout in AND I didn't engage in an argument with my husband. A pretty successful day all around!!

Update...Daily Diary

So Tuesday didn't go quite as well as Monday. Started off well with testing and breakfast, but I get so busy at work and there is so much work to do that I don't have time to actually heat something up and eat it. I have to MAKE myself stop and eat lunch, I just have to do it. Then I wasn't really hungry for dinner, but I made myself eat. Did another 50 push-ups (25 on the wall, then the next 25 on the chest freezer...trying to work my way back to full fledged ones on the floor.)

Today was worse. I skipped breakfast because I was running later than I wanted to be, which meant no cardio this morning. Then I got to work and someone brought cookies and Halloween candy. It was easy to say no to the Halloween candy since it was mostly chocolate. But, I did have one of the macadamia nut cookies. I did eat a Lean Cuisine (broccoli and beef w/mushrooms). Then pizza night at home (I had one slice and the toppings off two more, 3 wings and a breadstick). So, instead of making excuses and giving me a reason to keep doing badly, I am making time for cardio tonight. I'll need it to help my numbers after that breadstick/pizza!

Be back!

Checking In/Daily Diary...

As I promised to do yesterday, here is a status on my day:

I woke at 5 am to do 20 minutes of cardio (10 on the glider, 10 stepping). I tested regularly today (fasting, pre-lunch, pre-dinner and I'll be doing a bedtime reading as well). I ate 3 meals and two snacks (B-2 scrambled eggs, S-1 oz. shelled pecans, L-Homemade Veggie Soup, S-25g blueberries, D-Spaghetti Sauce w/veggies over 1/2 cup noodles). I will do 50 wall push-ups before bed. I signed in to Twitter and I am headed to Diabetes Daily and Tu Diabetes to read some posts. Finally, I posted here. I'll be back tomorrow.

Something I used to do on my old personal blog that I am going to do occasionally here:

Heard in the Diabetes Too household today: "What did the green grape say to the purple grape?...Breathe, dummy!" A joke my husband told me this morning. That cracked me up...what does that say about me, LOL?
